2 of West Muskerry A.C. master athletes Noel Galvin and Harry Gijbels were in action in the Munster Master Indoor competition on Sunday last the 8th of January. Both athletes competed very well and have given the West Muskerry Athletic club a great start to the New Year.
Noel Galvin competed in the Long Jump competition and won the bronze medal and Harry Gijbels competed in the High Jump, 60m and the 200m. Harry came 2nd in the High Jump and 3rd in the 60m. Both athletes were very happy with their performances as both have not been training for a while and both are now looking forward to the outdoor season. WEST MUSKERRY BOYS WIN 3RD TEAM AT ALL IREALND.
The Cross Country season drew to a close on Sunday last the 5th of February in Boyle Co. Roscommon and the West Muskerry athletes did themselves proud again.
10 athletes from the club travelled the long distance to compete in the All Ireland B Cross Country Championships and after spending weeks training for the event in all kinds of weather they did not disappoint on the day.
The boys U 11 team were first to bring smiles and cheers from all the club. They had to run 1500m. Connor O`Neill had a fantastic race and didn’t let the pressure of competing in his 1st All Ireland get to him throughout the race. He sprinted home and was well deserving of the individual 3rd place medal. His teammate Owen Moynihan also had a fantastic race and worked hard through the muc and he too was well deserving of the individual 6th place medal. Connor captained his team to the bronze medals and only loosing the silver medals by 2 points. All 4 boys were thrilled and well deserving of the medals. The team were Connor O`Neill, Owen Moynihan, Muiris Foley and Denis Dullea.
Garry O`Sullivan also had a great race in the boys U 15 3500m. Garry went with the lead group of 15 athletes in the early stages and was well placed in the race to fight into a medal position, with medals being awarded to the 1st 10 across the line. In the final lap he moved away with a group of 10 and battled his way down the home straight of 150m and was well deserving of the individual 9th place medal.
Ciara Hurley, Padraig Moynihan, Stephanie O Sullivan, Sharon O`Sullivan and Seamus Gallagher also ran extremely well and all battled through the muck and wet conditions but were out of the medals on this occasion.
