County B CC Championships 2016
ANOTHER GREAT DAY FOR WEST MUSKERRY ATHLETES
Posted: 16/10/2016 -
West Muskerry A.C were out again on Sunday last the 16th of October in Carrignavar for the County B Cross Country Championships. Medals were awarded to the first 6 athletes across the line and the first 3 club teams. Conditions were not pleasant with underfoot conditions very poor from all the rain and the athletes had to plough through the mud.
In the Boys U 15 Connor O` Neill had a great race. He settled in the for the first lap and opened up a sizeable lead on the second lap and there was nobody going to catch him after that. He came home comfortably in 1st place. He is now looking forward to his Munster Championship next Sunday.
In the Girls U 15 Sarah O` Neill also had a fantastic race. Sarah took the lead at the start which set the pace for the race. Sarah then lost touch with the lead group in the middle of the race but composed herself again and fought back hard and closed back into the lead group again and sprinted home to the bronze medal.
In the Boys U 17 the West Muskerry boys were very strong and all ran superb. James Downey latched on to the leader for the 3000m and sprinted home and was well deserving of the silver medal. His team mate Sean O` Sullivan finished very close behind in 3rd place and John Downey was also close behind. The three boys were awarded the team gold in the team competition.
In the Girls U 17 Ciara Hurley is making a comeback to running and while the conditions were tough she battled her way around the course and sprinted home and was well deserving of the 4th place medal.
In the Girls U 11 Eimear O` Sullivan had a fantastic race. She was in the middle of the pack at the start of the race but gained unbelievable ground going up the hill and once she was at the tip she sprinted home and was well deserving of her 4th place medal. Her team mates also battled hard all the way home and are improving with every race. The team finished in 5th place just out of the medals but all were extremely happy to have done so well in the race. They were Eimear O` Sullivan, Lucia Duarte, Eve Murphy and Roisin Carroll.
The Boys U 9, the Boys U 11 and the Girls U 13 all ran superb but were just out of the medals on this occasion. All have improved with every race they have run and I have no doubt you will see their names again very shortly. They were Conor Nash, Patrick Downey, Daire Mangan, Ruadhan McKenna, Jack Mangan, Danielle O` Neill, Lisa Kingston, Aoife Twomey and Brigin Kellehe
We wish all our athletes competing in the Munster Cross Country Championship next Sunday the 23rd of October the very best of luck.
