EIMEAR COUNTY B CHAMPION
Posted: 22/5/2016 -
Another fantastic day for the West Muskerry A.C. athletes when they took part in the County B. Championships in CIT on Sunday last the 22nd of May. All the athletes had a great day and are improving with every competition they take part in.
Eimear O`Sullivan was the highlight of the day on Sunday. Eimear has been competiting over a year now and finishes every compettion with a smile. But on Sunday last she was beaming. She competed in the Girls U 11 Shot Putt comeptition and when her name was called out as being in 1st place she could not believe it. Her first Medal and to be Crowned County B Champion for Shot Putt was the icing on the cake. Eimear also competed in the 600m with her team mate Lucia Duarte and both athletes fought very well and finished just outside the medals on this occasion but showed huge improvement from their last competiton and we will need to watch out for them in the future.
Sinead Hurley is another athlete in the making and again like Eimear smiles after every competition regardless of the outcome. On Sunday her day came. She was competiting in the Girls U 13 Shot Putt competiton and when her name was called out for winning the bronze medal, she was so excited she sprinted across the track to tell her team mates she had won a medal. The excitement was unbelieveable. Also Beibhinn Moynihan and Brigin Kelleher had fantastic runs in the 60m sprints and the 600m and both were very close in the Long jump but were out of the medals on this occasion. Both are looking forward to their next competiton.
James McCarthy was another athlete who was beaming on the day when he competed in the Boys U 13 80m sprint. His team mate Benjamin Deady Cabrejas was also competiting in the same race. Both boys sprinted down the track. As the race was extremely tight it had to go to the camera to decide the winners. James was awarded the Bronze medal with Benjamin coming 4th but only the smallest of margins seperating both boys. James then went on to win the Long Jump competition and his team mate Macdara O`Conaola jumping extremely well to receive the silver medal. A great day out for three talented young athletes.
In the Girls U 10 Roisin Carroll had a great run in the 60m sprint. Roisin qualified for the final and was just out of the medals on this occassion but one to watch out for. Her teammates Saorlaith Murphy, Eve Murphy and Suin Fitzgerald did exceptionally well in the Long Jump 500m and 60m sprint but were just out of the medals on this occasion but again athletes to watch out for in the future.
In the boys U 10 Eoin Hurley had a fantastic run in the 60m sprint. He qualified for the final and was just out of the medals on this occasion. He also competed in the Long Jump and what a competition that was with seven boys on the same jump going into the final. Eoin was awarded the 4th place along with 4 other boys in a very exciting Long Jump competition. In the boys U 11 Ciaran Fitzgerald had a marvolus run in the 60m sprint. He qualified for the final and again in the final the race was really tight but he was just out of the medals on this occasion. Ciaran is really enjoying competition this year and is another athlete to watch out for.
In the girls U 12 Danielle O`Neill had a very strong run in the 60m and the 600m. Danielle who perfers to run cross country gave the track a go and if she keeps trying and enjoying her running her day will come also.
In the Girls U 9 Olivia Moynihan and Rebecca O`Neill are really enjoying their first year competiting in competition and both did extremely well in the 60m and the 300m on Sunday. They too are looking forward to their next day out.
