County Championships Day 1 2016

BRENDAN COUNTY CHAMPION 2016

Posted: 1/5/2016 - West Muskerry A.C. were competing in the County Track and Field Championships on Sunday last the 30th of April in CIT. All the athletes give it their all and enjoyed their day. We had athletes who competed in the Long Jump, Turbo Javelin, Discus, Shot, Sprints and Middle Distance. It was a big day for most of the athletes as it was their first competition with the Club since they joined.

Breandán O` Sullivan competed in the 600m along with his team mates Colm Gellispie and Noah O' Leary. Breandan settled in the middle of the pace in the first 200m and at the 350m mark he started to make his move up towards the front of the pack. He settled going around the final bend and when it came to the home straight he took off like a bullet and nobody was going to catch him. He crossed the finish line in 1st place and was crowned 2016 County U 12 Champion for the 600m. His teammate Colm Gellispie also had a stormer of a race and he too sprinted all the way down the home straight after

Breandán and finished in third place. Noah also had a great race but was out of the medals on this occasion. In the Girls U 9 60m Eabha O Chonaola also ran out of her skin. It was Eabha's first competition with the club and she enjoyed every minute of it. She flew through the heats and the semi final and when she was on the start line for the final you could see the determination on her face. She sprinted down the track and was well deserving of the silver medal. Her teammates Rebecca O` Neill and Olivia Moynihan also ran superb but were out of the medals on this occasion.

In the Girls U 16 1500m Caitlin Hurley opened up her season with a great 2nd place finish. The race started off slow so she took the lead herself to up the pace. The other athletes followed but Caitlin kept her cool and with 200m the winner made her move and Caitlin chased after her in a great finish.

In the Girls U 16 Discus Meabh O` Riordan made her come back after a year out through injury and competed very well. Although she found it a bit strange to be back in the circle she enjoyed the moment and was well deserving of the bronze medal.

All the other athletes did extremely well but were out of the medals on this occasion. They were Aisling O` Sullivan, Roisin Carroll, Saorlaith Murphy, Grace Kelleher, Eimear O` Sullivan, Ciaran Fitzgerald, Rachel Kelleher, Danielle O` Neill, Benjamin Deady Cabrajas, James McCarthy, Macdara O Conaola, Eilish O Connell,Tadhg Manning and Eric Moynihan.
