WEST CORK UNEVEN AGE TRACK AND FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS

After an exciting night out at the Aoife Lucey Leukemia Fundraiser the athletes of West Muskerry A.C. competed in the West Cork uneven age track and field championships on Sunday last the 3rd of April and while the athletes were extremely tired they still turned up at the track and give it there all. Ger O`Sullivan who was our MC at the fundraiser took to the track for the first time with the club and he came home with a gold medal in the 100m and also took gold in the weight for distance. Shannon Cotter had a superb race in the Girls U 15 1500m and was well deserving of the silver medal. Tadgh Manning had a superbe race and was well deserving of the bronze medal in the Boys U 15 1500m. Jennifer Cotter and Caitlin Hurley competed in the Girls U 17 1500m and both battled it down the home straight with Jennifer taking the gold and Caitlin taking the silver. Rachel O`Shea made her come back to the 800m when she stormed home to victory in the Senior Womens 800m. The boys U 13 relay team finished a fantastic 3rd place and the team were Macdara O`Conaola, Breandan O`Sullivan, Benjamin Deady Cabrejas, James McCarthy and Colm Gellispie. The other club members who compted and did extremely well but were out of the medals on this occasion were Rebecca O`Neill, Saorlaith Murphy, Ava McSweeney, Niamh Underhill, Katie Downey, Aisling O`Sullivan, Emer O`Sullivan, Eoin O`Riordan, Sean Lucey, Cathal Lucey, Sam McSweeney, Killian O`Mahony, Graham Lynch, James Lucey, Danielle O`Neill, Brigin Kelleher, Sinead Hurley, Conor Lucey and James Downey. The club will be out again next Sunday the 10th of April for the West Cork Even Age track and Field Championships.
Well done also to the Senior group of West Muskerry A.C. who were competing over the last couple of weeks. In the Slievenamuck Mountain Marathon Sun March 20th 2016. Micheal McSweeney came in 1st place in a blistering time of 3hours 39mins and 43second and Well done to everyone who took part in the Glenanaar (Ballyhoura) 10km Mountain Run Sun March 13th 2016 Paul Leahy, Henry Browne, Micheal McSweeney, Séan O’Lionaird, Keith Ryan and Jeremey Kelleher.
