THRILLING NIGHT OUT FOR AOIFE
Posted: 4/4/2016 -
What a night West Muskerry A.C had at their fundraiser in the Riverside Park Hotel on Saturday the 4th of April last. The Fundraiser was for their clubmate Aoife Lucey who was diagnoised with Leukeumia in September 2015. Aoife herself was involved from the start to the finish. She was the Judge of the Schools Art Competition, She helped with the setting up of the hall on the Saturday morning, She read out a poem which she wrote herself, she played the harp and the piano on the night, she sold tickets and finally she finished off the night by shaving the head of her club Coach Collette O`Riordan.
The athmosphere was electric and the crowd were unbelievable. Every performer was as talented as the next and all were clubmates of Aoife. There were dancers, tin whistle players, violin players, gituar players, piano players, trumpet players, accordion players and singers and we even had a set dance and most had only been playing since Christmas. The Final Song Wagan Wheel was sung by all the members of the West Muskerry A.C up on stage and it was just spectatular. Our MC Ger O`Sullivan was outstanding with the children and he interviewed all of them before they performed. DJ Mike was fantastic and had the music for all the performers ready at a touch of a button. The Hill Billys were also there to support the children. Eric Moynihan captured the whole event on camera and will have a DVD shortly.
A huge thank you to the River Side Park Hotel for the fantastic venue, to all the Sponsors and all those who donated and bought tickets for the fundraiser and to all those who bought tickets on the night. To everyone who helped in any way to make the night so successful.
The headshave was as exciting as the concert it self. So many people wanted to take a cut off Collette. A big thank you to Brid O`Riordan who guided the hands of those who were lucky enough to get a chance to take a cut off. The final strip of hair even went to an Auction and there was great excitement with the Aghinagh Suppporters club of Daniel O`Riordan, Laura O`Riordan, Joanne O`Riordan, Hugh Kelleher and Denis Murray bidding against the West Muskerry Supporters Club of Connie O`Riordan, Johnny Manning, Sean O`Lionaird, Stephen Downey and Pat O`Neill with the extremely excited children all watching with eyes open and egging the groups on. The bid started with €10 and finished up with a final figure of €600 and as no group wanted to give in they agreed that both groups come together and take the last cut. Aoife had an amazing night and I am sure everyone present will remember this great fundraising event for a long time to come. The final figure has not yet been counted but it will be published as soon as it is counted.
