All Ireland B CC + Masters Indoor Race 2016

Posted: 25/1/2016 - What a start the stars of West Muskerry A.C. opened the year 2016 with. Three up and coming star athletes made the long journey up to Dundalk on Sunday last the 24th of January to the All Ireland B Cross Country Championship. The three athletes had trained hard over Christmas in all sorts of weather and the hard work paid off for all three.

In the boys U 11 Breandán O`Sullivan had a fantastic run. Breandán has only been running with the club a year but his talent is beginning to shine through with every race he runs. He is getting more confident and is starting to believe in himself. He fought hard in the 1000m race all the way to the finish line with only seconds separating the first 10. Breandán was well deserving of his 5th place All Ireland B Medal but the icing on the cake came when he also helped Cork secure the bronze All Ireland B medals in the County competition. A fantastic achievement.

In the Boys U 15 Sean O`Sullivan also had a fantastic race. Again Sean is new to the club but he is another star in the making. Sean was a very luck athlete to even get to the start line having injured his foot on the Monday before which almost ruled him out but with his sheer determination he recovered enough to allow him to run. Sean settled in very well in the early stages of the race and in the last 500m he started working extremely hard and was well deserving of his 10th place All Ireland B medal. Again more icing on the cake came when Sean helped Cork secure the Gold All Ireland B. Medals in the County competition. Again a fantastic achievement and just rewards for all the work that he put in over the Christmas period.

In the girls U 11 1000 Eimear O`Sullivan competed in her very first All Ireland Championships. She too trained hard over the Christmas period. She knew she would be running up an age but this did not stop the young star. She wanted to go out and give it 100% and cross the finish line. She gained valuable experience from competing in the competition and is now proudly displaying her new hoody which has all the names of the athletes she competed against on the day. Another young star in the making and a name to watch out for in the future.

Noel Galvin was flying the flag for West Muskerry A.C. when he was competing in the Munster Master Indoor Track and Field. Noel was delighted with his performance so early in the season and he really did fly the flag with pride when he was awarded 1st place in the Weight for distance for his age category and stood on the podium with a smile on his face. His success did not stop there as he also competed in the Long Jump in which he finished 3rd and also in the relay competition where he was part of the Cork team who secured the silver medals. Another successful day for Noel.
