Munster Even Ages Cross Country 2015

What a fantastic day the athletes of West Muskerry A. C. had on Sunday last the 25 th October
at the Munster Even ages cross country championships. Medals were awarded to the first 12
Individuals and the first three club and county teams.
In the girls u 16 4000m Jennifer Cotter who along with her team mate Caitlin Hurley were running up an age. Jennifer settled in with lead group and battled hard up the hill on the final lap. When she came off the hill she sprinted with all she had down the hill and into finish and was well deserving of the individual 5th place medal. Jennifer also secured the gold medal for the Cork team. Her team mate Caitlin also ran superbly and also secured the gold medal as part of Cork team. Both girls qualified for the All Ireland in November.
In the boys u 14 3000m Connor O Neill had a fantastic race and in a very close battle in the final stages of the race and a massive sprint finish Connor was well deserving of the 8th place medal. Connor also secured the gold medal as part of Cork team. His team mate Tadhg Manning also ran superbly and just missed out on individual medal but secured his place on the cork team for the All Ireland. Both boys are looking forward to a great run in the All Ireland in November.
In the girls u 14 3000m Shannon Cotter who was running up an age showed her determination throughout the race and again never gave up and sprinted to finish line and was well deserving of her 12th place finish. Shannon also secured the gold medal with cork. Her team mate Katelyn kelleher also ran superbly and secured her place on Cork team for All Ireland. In the team competition the girls were just outcof the medals on this occasion but all ran fantastic races. The team were Shannon Cotter, Katelyn Kelleher, Annie Maher, Sarah O Neill and Grainne Twomey.
The boys u 12 2000m was an extremely exciting race especially for the West Muskerry boys. Most of the boys were running up an age and it was their first big race also. The nerves were kept at bay and they are definitely athletes to watch out for in the future. Colm Gellispie and James O Neill battled with the lead group for most of the race. Both boys sprinted home with Colm winning the 12 Th place medal and James just missing out but both boys also secured the silver medals on the Cork team. In the team competition the boys came 4Th but did enough to secure their place in the All Ireland in November. The team were Colm Gellispie, James O Neill, Breandan O Sullivan who got spiked but kept battling on, Macdara O Conaola, James Mc Carthy, Dylan Defaoite, and Paul Downey.
Also Eimear O Sullivan, Danielle O Neill, Brigin Kelleher, James Downey and Sean O Sullivan also competed and ran superb races and are looking forward to their next competition. Best of luck to our master athletes and our county b athletes who compete next Sunday the 1 November in Conna, Co. Cork.
