County B Track And Field 2015
FANTASTIC PERFORMANCES FROM WEST MUSKERRY A.C.

West Muskerry A.C. were competing in the County B Track and Field Championships on
Sunday last the 31st of May and they produced some fantastic performances. Again most of
them progressed through the heats and reached the finals and all were very happy with their
In the Girls U 9 Daire Smolen was on fire. Having conquered the nerves she had at previous competitions she took to the track with confidence and there was a beaming smile on her face when she was crowned County B Champion in the 60m sprint. Daire did not stop there. She then went on to the Turbo Javelin and her throw was awarded the bronze medal. A talented young athlete in the making. Her team mate Grace Kelleher also competed extremely well and is improving every time.
In the boys U 11 Colm Gillespie competed in the 600m and he timed his race to perfection. He settled in to the front group and with 200m to go he sprinted all the way home and there was nobody going to catch him. He was well deserving of the gold medal. He also competed in the 60m and just missed out. His team mate Rowan Mullane also had a great race in the 60m.
In the Girls U 13 Shannon Cotter had a fantastic throw in the shot competition. Her throw was over a meter further than her competitors and was well deserving of the gold medal. Shannon also had a great run in the 600m where she won the bronze medal. Her teammates Katelyn Kelleher and Grainne Twomey also competed and ran extremely well in their races. In the boys U 9 Eoin Hurley was also on fire. He competed in the Long Jump and was getting better with every jump. He was thrilled when he was awarded with the silver medal. Eoin also competed in the sprint and it was so close on the line for 3rd place, it went to a photo finish with just missing out. Again another young star in the making.
In the Boys u 13 Conor Lucey had a massive battle in the long jump and it was very close at the end. He was thrilled to win the silver medal. Conor then went on to the 600m where he ran a superb race. He sprinted with 100m left and was well deserving of the bronze medal. In the Girls U 12 Aoife Lucey had a fantastic competition in the Shot. Again it was a very tight competition but Aoife kept her composure and was delighted to win the silver medal. Her team mates Sinead Hurley and Brigin Kelleher also did superb in their events.
In the boys U 10 James Lucey competed in the long jump. James had been knocking on the door over the past few weeks but on this occasion the luck was with him and he jumped his way in the bronze medal. James also competed in the 500m but was out of the medals on this occasion. His team mate Ciaran Fitzgerald also competed in the long jump and in the 60 meters but was just out of the medals on this occasion.
In the Girls U 11 Rachael Kelleher had a superb race in the 600m. She battled hard to hold her place and was well deserving of the bronze Medal. Her team mates Moira Leahy and Danielle O`Neill also ran superb races in their events and the improvements they have made are huge.
In the Boys U 12 James McCarthy another up and coming star fought a fantastic race in the 60m. James had to battle right to the line and was well deserving of the bronze medal. In the girls U 10 Avril Manning is another young athlete who loves to compete and she competed in the 60m and the 500m and did very well in both events.
NOEL AND JERRY COUNTY MASTER CHAMPIONS
West Muskerrys Master athletes were in action on Sunday last the 31st of May and the club
were represented by two fine athletes Noel Galvin and Jerry O'Mahony.
Noel Galvin competed in the Long Jump competition and he was delighted with his Jump and to be crowned County Master Champion for the Long Jump 2015 in his age category.
Jerry O`Mahony competed in the 100m and the 400m. Again Jerry was in superb form and he sprinted into first place in both events for his age Category to be crowned County Master Champion for the 100m and the 400m in his age category.
This is great for West Muskerry to have two County Master champions.
