COTTER SISTERS STRIKE GOLD

Posted: 3/5/2015 - West Muskerry athletes were in action on Sunday last the 3rd of May in the County track and field Championships in CIT and they again are going from strength to strength. Nearly all the athletes that competed came home with new Personal Bests which is a huge achievement.

The Cotter sisters were competing in the 1500m events, and what a performance they put on. Stephanie competed in the girls U 17 1500m and while the pace was slow in the first few rounds she settled in behind the leader but with 300m to go she made her break and there was no stopping her and she crossed the line in 1st place. Her sister Jennifer Cotter competed in the girls U 15 1500m and she lead the race from the start. On the final 400m she opened up a gap and she held this gap all the way to the finish. Both girls were delighted to be crowned County Champions.

In the Boys U 19 Billy Cronin had a fantastic run in the 1500m. He went out with the early pace and battled all the way and worked really hard over the last lap. He was delighted to be crowned County Champion 2015.

In the Girls U 19 Sisters Sharon & Stephanie O`Sullivan competed in the 1500m. Both girls went out with the pace and battled all the way to hold their position. Sharon sprinted to the finish and was well deserving of the silver medal and Stephanie finished shortly after and was awarded the bronze medals.

One of West Muskerry’s newest athletes Sean Lucey is showing signs of some great potential. Sean competed in the Boys U 9 Turbo Javelin. He showed no signs of nerves in his biggest competition to date. Sean was thrilled to be awarded the silver County medal for this throw. All the athletes who competed did really well and give it their all and almost all came home with new personal bests. They were Avril Manning, Eoin Hurley, Ruadhan McKenna, Sean McSweeney, Ava McSweeney, Michael O`Mahony, Aaron O`Mahony, Conor Lucey,Jamie Hourihan, James Lucey, Colm Gellispie, Aaron Healy, Dylan Defaoite, Rachel Kelleher, Katelyn Kelleher, Sarah O`Neill, Shannon Cotter, Annie Maher, Caitlin Hurley, Sarah Kelleher, Connor O`Neill, James Downey and Seamus Gallagher.

SHARON AND SEAMUS COUNTY U 19 CHAMPIONS

West Muskerry A.C were competing in the 2nd day of the County Track and Field Championships on Sunday the 17th of May last and sun shone which added to the fantastic day the athletes had. Sharon O`Sullivan competed in the Girls u 19 3000m and what a great race she had. She set her own pace and worked her way through the 7 & ½ laps of the track and was delighted to come home County 3000m U 19 Champion even though the official’s mis-calculated the laps and she in fact completed 3,400m.

Her team mate Seamus Gallagher was in great form also. He too took the lead early in the race and settled into his own pace and finished very strong and was delighted to be crowned Boys U 19 3000m champion 2015.

In the Girls U 15 800m Caitlin Hurley moved through the field and on the final 100m sprinted her way into the bronze medal position and was delighted with her race. In the Boys U 15 800m James Downey ran a superb race. James had to battle hard all the in both laps but he never gave in and was well deserving of the bronze medal with only a fraction separating him from the silver medal. A great performance from James.

All the athletes who competed did really well and gave it their all and almost all came home with new personal bests. They were Sean Lucey, Cathal Coleman, Liam Coleman, Conor Lucey, Jamie Hourihan, James Lucey, Colm Gellispie, Dylan Defaoite, Rachel Kelleher, Katelyn Kelleher, Grainne Twomey, Annie Maher, Sarah Kelleher, Jennifer Cotter, Danielle O`Neill, Brigin Kelleher, Sinead Hurley, James McCarthy, MacDara O`Conaola , Graham Lynch, Chris Maher.
