West Cork Even Ages Track And Field 2015

BILLY CROWNED MUNSTER CHAMPION

Posted: 25/4/2015 - The West Muskerry Athletic club were in action in the second of the Track and Field competitions on Saturday last the 25th of April. Again our athletes tried out all the different events and some surprised themselves in what they could do.

In the Boys U 16 Shot James Downey and Chris Maher were delighted they tried the shot putt. Both new to the event James won the gold medal and Chris won the silver medal. In the Girls U 16 1500m Caitlin Hurley and Jennifer Cotter had a massif battle down the home straight and were neck and neck on the line. The Judges awarded Caitlin the gold medal and Jennifer won the silver but only the slightest of margins separating them. The girls also competed in the U 16 relay and were awarded the silver medal. The team were Caitlin Hurley, Grainne Twomey, Sarah Kelleher and Jennifer Cotter.

In the girls U 16 Shot Meabh O`Riordan was delighted with her throw as she was up an age and which put her into 1st place.

In the Junior Ladies 1500m Sharon & Stephanie O`Sullivan again ran extremely well. Both girls battled it out with Sharon being awarded the silver medal and Stephanie being awarded the bronze medal.

In the Girls U 12 Aoife Lucey also tried the shot putt and was delighted she did as she was awarded the bronze Medal.

In the girls U 14 Annie Maher had a great run in the 100m. She got through the rounds and in the final she just held on to clinch the bronze medal.

In the Boys U 14 800m Connor O`Neill had a massive battle with a boy from Bandon Athletic Club and he was awarded the silver medal. A great run from Connor.

The West Muskerry boys U 12 4 x 100m relay finished in 3rd place. The team were James McCarthy, Macdara O`Conaola, Benjamin Deady Cabrejas, Rowan Mullane and Paul Downey. All the other athletes competed in every event and most of them qualified for the semi finals and finals but were out of medals on this occasion but really enjoyed their day. They were Daria Smolen, James Lucey, Sinead Hurley, Sarah O`Neill, Katelyn Kelleher, Danielle O`Neill, and Shannon Cotter.

The next event for these athletes is the County Championships which will be held in CIT on Sunday next the 3rd of May.
