West Cork Uneven Ages Track And Field 2015
WEST MUSKERRY OFF TO FLYING START TO TRACK AND FIELD SEASON

The West Muskerry Athletic club were in action in the first of the Track and Field competitions
on Sunday last the 12th of April. All our athletes both new and experienced competed very well
and were delighted to get the chance to try out all the different events from sprints, middle
distance, throws and jumps. A great day was had by all.
In the Boys u 9 Turbo Javelin Sean Lucey had a huge throw and won the gold medal. His team mate Ruadhan McKenna also had a huge throw and he clenched the silver medal. In the Boys U 11 - Colm Gillispe battled through the quarter final, semi final and in the Final of the 80m he secured the bronze medal. His Team mate James O`Neill also ran superb in the semi final of the 600m and in the final he had a fierce battle down the home straight and was well deserving of the bronze medal.
In the Girls U 13 Shot Shannon Cotter was up for the challenge and she was well deserving of the gold medal. She also competed in the 600m was just caught on the line but was well deserving of the bronze medal.
In the boys U 15 James Downey had a great day and he again qualified through the rounds in the 100m and in the final secured the bronze medal. James also competed in the 800m and he was battling his team mate Connor O`Neill but with 200m to go he opened up a small lead and held on to win the Gold medal. His team mate Connor O`Neill won the silver medal. In the Girls U 15 1500m Caitlin Hurley, Jennifer Cotter and Annie Maher had a huge battle throughout the race. On the final 150m Caitlin sprinted for home and secured the silver medal. She was followed closely by Jennifer Cotter who won the 3rd place medal and Annie Maher closely behind her in 4th.
The Girls U 15 Relay team also came 3rd and the team were Caitlin Hurley, Jennifer Cotter, Sarah Kelleher and Annie Maher.
In the Boys U 17 Chris Maher had a fantastic day bring home the Silver medal in the Long Jump, the silver medal in the Shot Putt and the Bronze Medal in the 100m. A marvellous day for Chris. The West Muskerry boys U 13 4 x 100m relay finished in 3rd place. The team were James McCarthy, Macdara O`Conala, Benjamin Deady Cabrejas, Conor Lucey and Darren Moynihan. In the Senior Mens 3000m Billy Cronin looked very impressive and was a clear winner. His team mate Seamus Gallagher finished in 3rd place.
In the Senior Ladies Sharon O`Sullivan and Stephanie O`Sullivan competed in the 3000m with Sharon securing the bronze medal and Stephanie closely behind in 4th place.
All the other athletes competed in every event and most of them qualified for the semi finals and finals but were out of medals on this occasion but really enjoyed their day. They were Grace Kelleher, Ava McSweeney, Katie O`Neill, Daria Smolen, Michael O`Mahony, Eoin Hurley, James Lucey, Graham Lynch, Aaron O`Mahony, Kevin Underhill, Rachael Kelleher, Moira Leahy, Aoife Lucey, Sinead Hurley, Sarah O`Neill, Grainne Twomey and Katelyn Kelleher, The second round of the West Cork Track and Field Championships will be held on Saturday the 25th of April next at 2pm.
